Volleyball Duo Earns All-America Recognition

Senior Marie Bruce (Austin, TX/Connally HS) and sophomore Samantha Lingamfelter (New Braunfels, TX/New Braunfels HS) were both named to the 2007 AVCA Division III Honorable Mention All-America Team on Tuesday (Nov. 13).

Bruce, already earning All-Region and First Team All-SCAC honors, makes her first appearance as an All-America selection. For the season, Bruce averaged 10.71 assists per game, 2.97 digs per game and 1.21 kills per game. She recorded a hitting percentage of .244. She will finish her career in fourth place on the SCAC career assists list and second in assists per game.

Lingamfelter earned Backrow Player of the Year and Second Team All-SCAC honors for her play this season while also being named All-Region for the first time in her career. She averaged 5.21 digs per game with 786 total digs. Lingamfelter had seven matches this season with at least 30 digs, including a career-high 41 digs against Birmingham-Southern College. Also this season, the sophomore had just 33 receiving errors in 151 games played. Lingamfelter is on pace to shatter the SCAC career digs (2,260) and digs per game (4.77) records as she stands at 1,471 digs and 5.23 digs per game in just two seasons.

The Southwestern duo joins former setter Brittany Sauser as the only Pirate volleyball players to be named All-Americans since SU joined the NCAA Division III.
