No. 17 Southwestern improved to 16-3 on the season, with a 4-0 record this weekend at the SCAC East/West Cross. The team won in straight sets against Colorado College, Oglethorpe and Sewanee and defeated Centre in a 3-1 decision. Over the course of the weekend the team was led by middle blockers Lindsay Thompson (31 kills and 13 blocks) and Lauren Brown (27 kills, 12 aces, 13 digs, 5 blocks and a .328 hitting percentage). Setter Christina Nicholls had another strong weekend leading the offense, averaging 8.91 assists per set (107 total). Libero Samantha Lingamfelter provided another strong defensive performance with 49 digs on the weekend and led the way from the service line with 14 aces. The team, as a whole, averaged 3.3 aces a set (43 total) and 1.5 blocks a set (19 total). The Pirates will be idle this coming weekend and will resume with conference play on October 11th in Birmingham, AL for the 2nd SCAC West/Central Cross Divisional. |
