Five seniors played their final home match on Wednesday (Oct. 31) as the Southwestern University volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 (30-12, 30-16, 30-22) victory over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Georgetown, TX.

Senior Katy Lukaszewski (Pasadena, TX/Deer Park HS) posted a double-double in front of the home crowd, recording 11 kills and 12 digs. Fellow senior Lauren Arrowood (Rowlett, TX/Garland HS) totaled eight kills with no errors in 13 attempts for a .615 hitting percentage. She also had four block assists.

Senior setter Marie Bruce (Austin, TX/Connally HS) dished out 32 assists, had eight digs, six kills and four block assists. Mandy Smith (Plano, TX/Greenhill HS) recorded nine digs while Jewel Thomson (Arlington, TX/Summit HS) had eight digs, three kills, three assists and two service aces.

Sophomore Audra Gentry (Albuquerque, NM/Sandia Preparatory) led the team with 12 kills and Lauren Brown (Austin, TX/Saint Michael's Academy) added seven kills.

As a team, the Pirates had a .345 attack percentage and totaled nine team blocks. Southwestern also had 61 digs in the match.

SU improved its season record to 26-10 while the Crusaders fell to 13-18.

The Pirates head north to Sherman, TX on Friday (Nov. 2) for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference volleyball tournament being hosted by Austin College. Southwestern is the sixth seed and will face Sewanee in the first match at 11:30 a.m. If the Pirates win, they will take on third seed Rhodes College at 4:30 p.m.
