Junior forward Casey Grier (Spring, TX/Klein Collins HS) and senior defender Amanda Gunzelman (Houston, TX/Cypress Springs HS) have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team that was released on Thursday (Nov. 1). Gunzelman, who has a grade point average of 3.85 while majoring in psychology, has started all 17 games this season for the Pirates. Her solid play has been instrumental for the SU defense that has helped the team to its best season ever. The team has allowed just five goals in eight conference games and just 18 in 17 total games. Grier, an art major with a gpa of 3.70, also makes her first appearance as an All-District selection. The junior has been a big part of the Pirate offense this season, scoring eight goals (second most on the team) and dishing out four assists (tied for second most on the team). She has 20 overall points, the third highest total on the team, and has scored one game-winning goal. The Southwestern players were selected for the College Division of District 6. District 6 includes schools in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi while the College Division is comprised of all school that are not NCAA Division I. The teams are voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
