Women's Soccer Upends Crusaders in Non-Conference Tilt

The Southwestern University women's soccer team improved to 3-5-2 with a 4-2 win over the University of Dallas Crusaders on Friday (Sept. 29).

Sophomore Casey Grier (Spring, TX/Klein Collins), the team's leading scorer this season, opened scoring during the 17th minute with an assist from Ana Stewart (Ballinger, TX/Ballinger HS). Stewart hooked up with Shauna Davidson (Allen, TX/Plano East HS) at 31:16 to put the Pirates ahead 2-0. The Crusaders managed to get on the board in the first period with a goal from Becca Carden during the 39th minute.

UD tied the game at the 47:33 mark on Carden's second goal of the game. The Pirates answered during the 64th minute with a goal from first-year Laura Kromann (Austin, TX/Bowie HS), assisted by Lindsey Abel (Spring, TX/Klein Oak HS). With the Pirates up by one, goalkeeper Eryn Snyder (Spring Branch, TX/Smithson Valley HS) made a diving save on a UD penalty kick to preserve the SU lead at 3-2. A.J. Andreola (Garland, TX/Berkner HS) put the nail in the coffin with an unassisted goal in the 73rd minute. Snyder finished the game with six saves.

Southwestern out-shot the Crusaders 18-12 and held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. Two-thirds of SU's shots were on goal. Dallas's record falls to 6-3 with the loss.

The Pirates take on Schreiner University on Sunday (Oct. 1) in Georgetown, TX at 12:00 p.m.
