The SU women's golf team trails defending champion Methodist University by only two strokes after the first round at the NCAA Division III National Championship on Tuesday (May 13) in Waverly, IA. Sophomore Kristen Davenport (Mansfield, TX/Mansfield HS) shot her lowest round of the year, firing a 76 and is tied for fifth. Marisa Mauldin (Utopia, TX/Utopia HS), a junior, is tied with Davenport in fifth with a 76. Another SU player, first-year Victoria Dominguez (Bastrop, TX/Bastrop HS), shot the lowest round of her collegiate career during the opening round at the tournament with a 78. She is tied for 13th. Her sister, Delilah Dominguez (Bastrop, TX/Bastrop HS), is tied for 23rd after shooting a 79. Cody Wallace (Austin, TX/Lake Travis HS) totaled 87 in her first round. As a team, the Pirates shot 309. Methodist stands in first after totaling 307 as a team. Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference member DePauw University stands in third place with a 315. Rhodes College's Stephanie Mingos leads all individuals with a one-under par 71. The second round will be played on Wednesday (May 14) in Waverly with Southwestern's players teeing off beginning at 8:20 am.
