Marisa Mauldin

April 30, 2007

The Southwestern University women's golf team won the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship on Sunday (Apr. 29) at White Wing Golf Club and earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship that will be held from May 8-11 in Howey-in-the-Hills, FL.

This marks the second consecutive trip to the NCAA Championship as the Pirates took 10th place in 2006. The conference championship is the first in women's golf for Southwestern since 1999.

Sophomore Marisa Mauldin (Utopia, TX/Utopia HS) won the SCAC individual title with a two-round total of 157 (80-77). Mauldin led by two strokes after day one and then managed to hold off teammate Delilah Dominguez (Bastrop, TX/Bastrop HS) and Oglethorpe's Katie Dale who both shot 160.

Dominguez shot a first-round 87 before firing off a one-over par 73 in the second round for the lowest round of the tournament and a runner-up finish. First-year Brittni Pine (The Woodlands, TX/The Woodlands HS) took eighth place with a 171 (84-87).

Kristen Davenport (Mansfield, TX/Mansfield HS) tallied a 172 (88-84), good for a ninth-place tie. Mauldin, Dominguez, Pine and Davenport all earned All-SCAC honors for finishing in the top-ten. First-year Cody Wallace (Austin, TX/Lake Travis HS) finished one place shy of being an All-SCAC performer, taking 11th with a 174 (90-84).

The Pirates totaled 657 (339-318) as a team and led second-place DePauw University by 16 strokes.
