On day one at the SCAC Championship being held in Danville, IN on Friday (Apr. 25), the Southwestern University women's golf team took a one stroke lead on host DePauw University after the first round of play with a score of 336. Marisa Mauldin (Utopia, TX/Utopia HS), 2007 SCAC Golfer of the Year and Second Team All-America, leads the field with a first round 78 (39-39). In second place is Delilah Dominguez (Bastrop, TX/Bastrop HS) after firing an 80 (41-39). Dominguez tied for second in 2007. Sophomore Kristen Davenport (Mansfield, TX/Mansfield HS) shot an 89 (45-44) while Cody Wallace matched with an 89 (47-42) of her own. Both are tied for 16th. In 23rd is Victoria Dominguez (Bastrop, TX/Bastrop HS) after a first round score of 91 (44-47). The Pirates' score of 336 is three strokes lower than their opening round score from 2007. They sit just one stroke ahead of DePauw at 337 while Centre College (350), Rhodes College (354) and Trinity University round out the top five. Round two takes place on Saturday (Apr. 26) in Danville.
