On Sunday (Mar. 23), the SU women's golf team placed fourth out of 26 teams at the Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate Invitational in Jekyll Island, GA. Junior Marisa Mauldin (Utopia, TX/Utopia HS) posted a score of 239 (81-75-83) to finish in eighth place but had the third-lowest score among NCAA Division III competitors. Sophomore Kristen Davenport (Mansfield, TX/Mansfield HS) came in two strokes behind Mauldin in 10th place with a 241 (77-79-85). Delilah Dominguez (Bastrop, TX/Bastrop HS) finished in a tie for 18th with a 249 (84-83-82). Cody Wallace (Austin, TX/Lake Travis HS), a sophomore, tallied a 266 (95-83-88) for a 68th-place tie. First-year Victoria Dominguez (Bastrop, TX/Bastrop HS) shot 268 (99-83-86), good for a 73rd-place tie with four other golfers. The Pirates finished with a team score of 993 while tournament winner Berry College posted a score of 959. Berry and second place Shorter College are both NAIA institutions while third place University of St. Thomas finished six strokes ahead of SU with a 987. Southwestern will have its last match before the SCAC Championships on Saturday (Mar. 12) when the Pirates host Trinity University and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor for a Tri-Match at Teravista in Round Rock, TX.
