The Southwestern University women's golf team shot a final round 361 and saw its 14 stroke first round lead evaporate as the Pirates finished in second place at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Spring Invitational in Salado, TX on Tuesday (Feb. 27). Sophomore Delilah Dominguez (Bastrop, TX/Bastrop HS) was tied for first after the first round but finished the tournament with a 170 (81-89), seven strokes behind UMHB's Christi Williams. Fellow sophomore Marisa Mauldin (Utopia, TX/Utopia HS) finished one stroke behind Dominguez with a two-round total of 171 (82-89) and tied for fourth. First-years Cody Wallace (Austin, TX/Lake Travis HS) and Kristen Davenport (Mansfield, TX/Mansfield HS) ended the tournament tied for 11th and 13th, respectively. Wallace shot a 177 (85-92) with Davenport one stroke behind at 178 (87-91). Maggie Morgan (Denton, TX/Denton HS) played as an individual and tied for 43rd with a final tally of 200 (99-101). Brittni Pine (The Woodlands, TX/The Woodlands HS) withdrew from the tournament. The host Crusaders won the tournament with, shooting a 683 (349-334) to finish 16 strokes ahead of the Pirates' 696 (335-361). Rounding out the top-five were Lubbock Christian University (713), Western Texas College (743) and Hardin-Simmons University (747). The Pirates' next tournament begins on Monday (Mar. 5) in Austin, TX at the St. Edward's Invitational. SU Sports Information |
