The SU men's soccer team announced the winners of its five annual awards presented after every season at the Men's Soccer Banquet that was held on Sunday (Dec. 2), highlighted by Player of the Year award winner Kyle Strine (Houston, TX/Klein Oak HS). Strine won the award after being selected as a First Team All-SCAC player, his fourth selection in as many years to the All-Conference team. He finished the year with 15 points and six goals, both good for third on the team, and he tied for the team lead in assists with three. First-year Alex Keller (Houston, TX/Langham Creek HS) was named the Newcomer of the Year, recording two goals and three assists for seven points in his inaugural campaign with the Bucs. Junior Josh Spencer (Huntsville, TX/Huntsville HS) earned the award for Most Improved as he led the Pirates with 10 goals and 21 points. Spencer had seven goals and one assist in SCAC play, tied for the third-most in the conference. The Pirate Award, given to the player who best exhibited class, ability, leadership, effort, team focus and was a good citizen of SU, was given to senior Daniel Webb (Austin, TX/Westlake HS). Webb started every game for Southwestern and totaled four goals and one assist. The Goal of the Year winner was junior David Lozano (Austin, TX/University of Dayton) for his goal in the final game of the season at Trinity. Lozano got control of the ball near the Trinity goal and put a shot just inside the right goalpost to tie the game at 1-1 with just over four minutes left in regulation. The goal sent the Pirates to overtime with rival and #1-ranked Trinity.
