Junior David Lozano (Austin, TX/University of Dayton) scored with less than five minutes in regulation to tie the game 1-1 but the SU men's soccer team fell 2-1 to the top-ranked Trinity Tigers in San Antonio, TX friday (Nov. 2) evening. The two teams played a very close game throughout, with neither team scoring during the first period. The Tigers struck first when Kyle Altman scored on a penalty kick during the 61st minute. Southwestern kept fighting and with just 4:18 left in regulation, Lozano found himself with the ball near the goal and sent a perfect shot inside the right goalpost to tie it at 1-1. Senior Daniel Webb (Austin, TX/Westlake HS) was credited with the assist. In the overtime period, play was stopped multiple times as two Pirates received yellow cards and that gained time allowed Trinity's Robert C'deBaca to score the game winner with 21 seconds left in the overtime period. This was the first time the undefeated Tigers were even taken to an overtime period this season. The Pirates finish the regular season 7-2-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play and 12-6-2 overall. Trinity improves to 18-0, 10-0 in the conference. The Pirates could finish as high as second or as low as fourth in the SCAC depending on the finish of the remaining conference games this weekend.
