The SU men's golf team stands alone in sixth place after the first day of play at the SCAC Conference Championship being held in Danville, IN and the Pirates are nine strokes out of fourth place. Sophomore Ricky Jones (St. Louis, MO/Eureka HS) is tied for 11th after one round, shooting an 80 (40-40). In a tie for 20th is first-year Philip Thompson (Utopia, TX/Utopia HS) after firing 83 (41-42). Stephen Gehring (College Station, TX/A&M Consolidated HS) sits in 28th place after shooting 85 (43-42). Xan Erwin (Austin, TX/Westwood HS), a junior, came in with an 88 (43-45) and is in a tie for 33rd. Tyler Russell (Cypress, TX/Cy-Fair HS) is just one stroke behind Erwin in 36th with an 89 (41-48). As a team, the Pirates shot 336 and stand alone in sixth. Trinity University leads with a 312, six strokes ahead of Oglethorpe University. Round two will take place on Saturday (Apr. 26) in Danville.
