The final round of the West Region Invitational ended on Tuesday (Apr. 8) at Berry Creek Country Club with the Southwestern University men's golf team placing 10th overall. The Pirates' top-finisher was Ricky Jones (St. Louis, MO/Eureka HS) with a 223 (78-74-71) to tie for 12th overall. First-year Stephen Gehring (College Station, TX/A&M Consolidated HS) came in tied for 19th after shooting 227 (76-80-71). Playing as an individual, junior Tyler Russell (Cypress, TX/Cy-Fair HS) fired a 230 (75-77-78) to tie for 32nd. Philip Thompson (Utopia, TX/Utopia HS) tied for 52nd with a 240 (76-82-82) while Tim Decker (Colleyville, TX/Grapevine HS) finished in a 56th-place tie, shooting 242 (81-80-81). Xan Erwin (Austin, TX/Westwood HS) shot 244 (81-80-83) while Connor McMindes (Hurst, TX/Abilene Christian University) totaled 249 (84-85-80) and Caleb Cox (Huntsville, TX/Huntsville HS) finished with 250 (87-83-80). SU shot 930 (311-314-305) as a team to maintain 10th place. The winner was University of La Verne, winning in a tiebreak over University of Redlands by having a lower average dropped score by 0.66 strokes. This was the final tournament for the SU men before they travel to Danville, IN for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship from April 25-27.
