The SU men's golf team, hosting the West Region Invitational in Georgetown, TX at Berry Creek Country Club, shot a combined 625 through two rounds and the Pirates are in 10th place. Sophomore Ricky Jones (St. Louis, MO/Eureka HS) and Tyler Russell (Cypress, TX/Cy-Fair HS) were the top-performers from SU as they both shot 152 and are tied for 24th. Jones went 78-74 while Russell, playing as an individual, shot 75-77. Stephen Gehring (College Station, TX/A&M Consolidated HS) is tied for 38th with a score of 156 (76-80). Philip Thompson (Utopia, TX/Utopia HS), a first-year, shot 158 (76-82) and is tied for 45th. In a 52nd-place tie are Xan Erwin (Austin, TX/Westwood HS) and Tim Decker (Colleyville, TX/Grapevine HS) with both shooting 161. Connor McMindes (Hurst, TX/Abilene Christian University) shot 169 and Caleb Cox (Huntsville, TX/Huntsville HS) shot 170 as individuals. The Pirates shot 311-314 to stand at 625, just three strokes behind Hardin-Simmons University. The University of La Verne leads with one round left after shooting a 584. In second place is the University of Redlands with a 589, followed by Texas Lutheran University (593) and McMurry University (594). The final round of the West Region Invitational on Tuesday (Apr. 8) at Berry Creek.
