Southwestern Men in 11th Place at UMHB Spring Invitational

Monday (Feb. 25) marked the beginning of competition for the Southwestern University men's golf team as the Pirates sit in 11th place at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Spring Invitational in Temple, TX.

Junior Xan Erwin (Austin, TX/Westwood HS) and first-year Tim Decker (Colleyville, TX/Grapevine HS) both shot 80 for the opening round and they are tied for 21st. That was the lowest score by any Southwestern player but they were each playing as individuals. First-year Stephen Gehring (College Station, TX/A&M Consolidated HS) is tied for 31st after firing an 82.

Ricky Jones (St. Louis, MO/Eureka HS) shot an 84 to sit in a 37th-place tie. Following Jones is Phillip Thompson (Utopia, TX/Utopia HS) in a tie for 55th with an 87, Tyler Russell (Cypress, TX/Cy-Fair HS) in 67th with an 89 and JK Harrison (Las Cruces, NM/Las Cruces HS) in 80th with a 98. Sophomore Connor McMindes (Hurst, TX/Abilene Christian University) is playing as an individual,fired a 91 and he is tied in 68th.

Texas Lutheran University stands in first place with a team score of 305. The Pirates are tied in 11th with the UMHB JV team as both teams shot opening round scores of 342. SU is just two strokes out of the top-10 as Webster University occupies that 10th spot with a 340.

The final round will be played on Tuesday (Feb. 26) in Temple.
