Otto Qualifies for NCAA Championships at South/Southeast Regional Meet

Senior Jameson Otto (Carrollton, TX/Creekview HS) is headed to the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships after placing 10th at the South/Southeast Regional in Atlanta, GA.

Otto was a part of the front pack throughout the race and finished in a time of 26:25.1, 44 seconds behind Rhodes' Alex Mahoney who placed first. Fellow senior Aaron Contreras (Brownsville, TX/St. Joseph's Academy) was second for SU, crossing the finish line in 26:53.1 and placing 20th.

Otto and Contreras both earned All-Region honors for their performances. Otto is also the first male runner to qualify for the National Championship meet under head coach Francie L. Smith.

David Pruit (Grapevine, TX/Cistercian Preparatory) finished 99th while Daniel Hagelberg (Allen, TX/Allen HS) 108th. They were followed by Eric Sterner (San Antonio, TX/Central Catholic Marianist HS) in 111th and Evan Hochschild (Houston, TX/Cypress Creek HS) in 116th.

In the women's race, junior Jessica Ratcliffe (Coppell, TX/Coppell HS) was the first Pirate runner across the line as she placed 45th with a time of 25:43.5. Tami Warner (Dale, TX/Lockhart HS) posted a time of 25:58.2, good for 55th place.

Sophomore Kristin Lahaie (Cypress, TX/St. Pius X HS) took 72nd and had a time of 26:35.6. Kelly Parmet (Bellaire, TX/Bellaire HS) finished 87th while Mallory Bird (San Antonio, TX/Reagan HS) and Karin Arnhamn (Manor, TX/Elgin HS) placed 91st and 93rd, respectively.

Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference members Centre College and Rhodes College placed first and second and move on to the NCAA Championships on the men's side. In the women's race, Emory University took first and Trinity University was second to move on the national meet.

The NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships will take place on Saturday (Nov. 18) in West Chester, OH.
