The SU men's and women's cross country teams ran at the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional meet on Saturday (Nov. 10) with the women's team placing 11th our of 28 teams and the men finishing 15th out of 21 teams in Newport News, VA. Junior Kristin Lahaie (Cypress, TX/St. Pius X HS) was the top-finisher for the Pirates, placing 49th with a time of 25:35. Finishing just three second after Lahaie was senior Jessica Ratcliffe (Coppell, TX/Coppell HS) in 52nd place. Sophomore Tami Warner (Dale, TX/Lockhart HS) ran a time of 26:01, good for 62nd. Karin Arnhamn (Manor, TX/Elgin HS), a senior, placed 70th with a time of 26:17. First-year Ursula James (Sugarland, TX/Elkins HS) crossed the finish line in 26:59 for 93rd while sophomore Angela Anderson (Fort Hood, TX/Central Texas College) had a time of 27:07 for 99th place. Southwestern placed 11th with 322 points. Emory University won the women's race with 52 points, followed by Trinity University (54), Washington & Lee University (104), Mary Washington University (135) and Roanoke College (177) rounded out the top-five. In the men's race, first-year Addison English (Keller, TX/Keller HS) finished in 67th place, recording a personal-best time of 28:12. Junior Ben Sloan (Spartanburg, SC/dorman HS) crossed the lline in 28:41, placing 80th. Also recording a personal-best was first-year Allen Smith (Dallas, TX/Shelton School) who ran the race in 28:58 for 85th. Sophomore Josh Gideon (Mesquite, TX/McMurry University) posted a time of 29:05 and finished in 89th. David Pruit (Grapevine, TX/Cistercian Preparatory), a sophomore, finished 92nd with a season-best time of 29:10. First-year Sebastian Winkler (Corpus Christi, TX/Incarnate Word Academy) ran a time of 29:26 while senior Eric Sterner (San Antonio, TX/Central Catholic Marianist HS) finished in 30:52. The men's totaled 383 points in the race while winners Rhodes College and Emory University both ended the race with 76 points. Rounding out the top-five were the University of Texas at Tyler (77), Washington & Lee University (146) and Mary Washington University (163).
