2007-2008 (Senior Year)
Cross Country: As a team captain, Sterner competed in all six meets for the Pirates. At the SCAC Championships hosted by Southwestern University, he ran a personal best 8k of 30:21.95 and finished 64th in a field of 87.

2006-2007 (Junior Year)
Cross Country: Sterner competed in all eight meets for the Pirates and was a top-5 finisher for the team in five meets. His highest overall finish was at the Texas DIII State Championships where he posted a time of 33:10 for the 8k course and placed 38th of 57 finishers. At the South/Southeast Regional Championships, Sterner ran a personal best 8k time of 31:12.3 and placed 111th in a field of 152.
