Oct. 30, 2006 Senior Jameson Otto (Carrollton, TX/Creekview HS) won his first meet of the season on Saturday (Sept. 30) at the Texas State Division III Cross Country Championships in Abilene, TX. Otto finished the race in 27:54 to take the individual title. Aaron Contreras (Brownsville, TX/St. Joseph's Academy) placed sixth overall with a time of 28:36. Sophomore Ben Sloan (Spartanburg, SC/Dorman HS) was the third finisher for SU, placing 19th with a time of 30:33. Dan Hagelberg (Allen, TX/Allen HS) was 29th while Brian Schaefer (Spring, TX/Klein HS) and Eric Sterner (San Antonio, TX/Central Catholic Marianist HS) placed 31st and 33rd respectively. As a team, the men finished in third place with a total score of 86. McMurry won the team title with a score of 37 while Trinity was second with 49 points. In the women's race, Jessica Ratcliffe (Coppell, TX/Coppell HS) was the top-finisher for the Pirates, taking seventh place with a time of 25:25. First-year Tamra Warner (Dale, TX/Lockhart HS) finished in 25:47, good for ninth place. The top-five finishers for the Pirates all placed in the top-20, with Catherine Cunningham (Friendswood, TX/Friendswood HS) taking 13th with a time of 26:23. Rachel Petrofes (College Station, TX/St. Joseph School) had a time of 26:33 and Elida Martinez (Lockhart, TX/Lockhart HS) finished in 26:53, good for 15th and 19th places. As a team, the women took home second place with a point total of 63. Trinity won the meet with a perfect score of 15, taking the first five spots in the race. The next meet for the men's and women's cross country teams is the Incarnate Word Cross Country Invitational in San Antonio, TX on Friday (Oct. 6). |
