Results

The Southwestern University men's and women's track & field teams took part in the Dr. Pepper Invitational hosted by Baylor University in Waco, TX on Saturday (Mar. 24).

Junior Mike Hanschen (Austin, TX/Austin HS) competed in multiple events for SU and managed to finish 12th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.27. He finished ahead of multiple Division I runners in the race. He finished fourth in the long jump with a distance of 6.18 meters and he took 14th in the 200 meter dash, crossing the finish line in 23.01 seconds.

In the 200 meter dash, Preston Hollis (Austin, TX/McCallum HS) finished .01 seconds behind Hanschen in 15th. Senior Michael Maine (Mesquite, TX/Mesquite HS) recorded a time of 52.93 in the 400 meter dash, taking 13th.

Aaron Contreras (Brownsville, TX/St. Joseph's Academy) was 14th in the 1500 meter run, finishing in 4:15.38. In the 3000 meter run, Jameson Otto (Carrollton, TX/Creekview HS) took 12th place. Brennan Peel (Milano, TX/Milano HS) ran the 400 meter hurdles in 61.26, good for sixth place.

First-year Avery Sheppard (Cuero, TX/Cuero HS) tied for eighth with a jump of 1.85 in the high jump. Sophomore Kristin Lahaie (Cypress, TX/St. Pius X HS) ran a 2:36.05 in the 800 meters and placed 22nd. The men's 4x440 team of Peel, Sheppard, Hollis and Maine placed eighth with a time of 3:32.60.

The Pirates travel to Houston, TX for the Victor Lopez Rice Bayou Classic hosted by Rice University on Friday (Mar. 30) and Saturday (Mar. 31).
