Matthew is a 2006 graduate of A & M Consolidated High School in College Station, TX. He was a letter-winner for the Tiger Cross Country and Track teams.

Matthew is the son of Albert and Mary and he has one sister, Valerie. He is majoring in English while at Southwestern.
