The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference swimming and diving championships got rolling on Thursday (Feb. 14) in Southlake, TX with the SU teams posting strong times.

Junior Jessie Carrier (Victoria, TX/st. Joseph HS) placed fourth in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.64, missing the NCAA B cut time by 0.18 seconds. Fellow junior Alana Bergfield (Dhahran, Saudi Arabia/The Cranbrook School) managed a time of 2:14.09 in the 200 yard IM, good for fifth.

In the 500 yard freestyle, first-years Bailey Thompson (Garland, TX/Garland HS) and Sam Kessler (Austin, TX/Westwood HS) finished sixth and 13th, respectively. The women's 400 yard medley relay grouping of Thompson, Bergfield, Kessler and Carrier took fourth place with a time of 4:06.59 while Carrier, Bergfield, Kassie Krusely (Round Rock, TX/Round Rock HS) and Michelle Comerota (Missouri City, TX/Hightower HS) posted a time of 1:42.96 in the 200 yard freestyle relay for fifth place.

First-year Dustin McCammon (San Antonio, TX/Judson HS) recorded a 12th-place finish in the 200 yard IM, posting a time of 2:03.17. The men's 200 freestyle relay team placed sixth and the 400 medley relay took home seventh.

The women have a point total of 134 and sit in fifth place, just 11 points out of fourth. The men are currently eighth with 73 points.

The meet continues on Friday (Feb. 15) with 15 total events taking place. Preliminaries are at 10:00 am and the finals will begin at 6:00 pm.
