Women Finish Third; Men Take Fourth at Tiger Invitational

The Southwestern University men's and women's swimming teams took fourth and third place, respectively, at the two-day Tiger Invitational in San Antonio, TX that concluded on Saturday (Jan. 26).

Senior Jessie Carrier (Victoria, TX/St. Joseph HS) finished in second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.52, .04 seconds behind the winner. She also took second in the 100 freestyle, finishing in 56.00 and was part of a pair relay teams that finished third.

Bailey Thompson (Garland, TX/Garland HS) took second place in both the 100 backstroke (1:02.97) and the 200 backstroke (2:16.04). She was only .27 out of first in the 100 and she swam the first leg of the 200 medley relay for the Pirates. First-year Sam Kessler (Austin, TX/Westwood HS) placed second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:19.34 and took third in the 500 freestyle (5:25.29). The only other Pirates to record a top-three finish was Katie Coleman (Wichita Falls, TX/Wichita Falls HS) recorded a third place finish in the 1,650 freestyle.

For the men, their top finish came from first-year Dustin McCammon (San Antonio, TX/Judson HS) who place fourth in the 100 backstroke, finishing in 1:00.45. Daniel Martinez-Torres (Fort Worth, TX/North Crowley HS) recorded a fifth-place finish in the 200 butterfly.

The women's final standings had Trinity (1,139) in first, followed by Incarnate Word (744), Southwestern (418) and McMurry (334). On the men's side, Trinity (1,054) won with Incarnate Word (822), McMurry (376) and Southwestern (257) following.

The Pirates have one last dual meet on Saturday (Feb. 2) in Sherman, TX with Austin College before the SCAC Championship meet in Dallas, TX on Feb. 14-16.
