Jan. 22, 2008 Southwestern University head women's soccer coach Jack Flatau has announced his resignation as head coach of the Pirates after 11 seasons at the helm of the women's program. "I am eternally grateful for the opportunity to coach at Southwestern. It was such a wonderful, positive environment. I am going to miss the ladies I had the privilege of coaching and all the great people at Southwestern. It was a difficult decision, but one that my wife and I felt was the right one at this point in time so I could move closer to my family," said Flatau. "I was disappointed to lose Jack after all he has done for our women's soccer program and our department," stated Director of Athletics Dr. Glada Munt. "I understand that it was a family decision and we support Jack and his wife Susie in their decision. He will always be a part of the Pirate family." Flatau put together a career record of 93-87-17 as the Pirates coach. He was 51-39 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play. Flatau led the Pirates to their best record in program history during the 2007 season, finishing 13-5 overall and 7-2 in the SCAC for the first second place conference finish in program history. The 2007 season garnered his first-ever SCAC Coach of the Year honors. Flatau coached three All-Region selections, 41 All-SCAC performers including 2006 SCAC Newcomer of the Year, Laura Kromann and a number of players honored as scholar student-athletes. Flatau spent the 1997 season doing double-duty as the head Men's Soccer coach at Southwestern as well, leading the Pirates to a 7-10-2 record. Southwestern will begin a national search for head women's soccer coach immediately.
